APPLIANCE LOAD TESTERS
Harwinton’s Clean Energy Task Force has donated four Appliance Load Testers to the Harwinton Library. The devices, purchased with grant money from Ct. Clean Energy Fund, can be checked out by library patrons for quick read-outs of WATTS used by plug-in devices such as: refrigerators, dehumidifiers, space heaters, holiday lighting, coffee makers, hairdryers, toasters, and more. Read-outs of “phantom loads” can also be measured. The packet also includes informational flyers to be kept by patrons after the load tester is returned to the library: A Home Energy Management Checklist, Connecticut Climate Change (web site information covering several clean energy topics), and information about the Clean Energy 20% by 2010 Campaign (includes a clean energy sign -up coupon that can be filled out and returned to the library).
The goal of the Clean Energy Task Force is to increase public awareness of the importance of clean energy and to encourage Harwinton residents to sign – up with Ct. Clean Energy Options, supporting the development of clean, renewable energy for use in the electrical grid. Renewable energy, such as wind, solar and hydroelectric, replaces the need of fossil fuels for electricity production in the grid.
HARWINTON’S GOING GREEN
The Town of Harwinton has joined the “20% by 2010” Clean Energy Campaign, along with many other Connecticut municipalities. By joining, the town has agreed to purchase 20% renewable energy to be used in the electrical grid to produce electricity. The renewable energy can be from solar, wind, or hydroelectric power sources. These renewables will replace the current use of fossil fuels, mainly coal and oil, to produce electricity. As the Towns sign on to this campaign, so can all CT. residents and small businesses who are CL&P or UI customers. For every 100 residents or small businesses who sign up for Ct. Clean Energy Options, the town will receive a FREE 1kW solar energy system from the Ct. Clean Energy Fund that can be placed on a school or other town building.
