In September 2009 the Town of Harwinton applied for and was awarded a grant from the Department of Environmental Protection to execute a project entitled: Harwinton Land Use Regulation and Municipal Ordinance Revisions. The purpose was to draft a revised set of recommended changes to current regulations to remove barriers to low impact development and create opportunity for low impact development (LID) practices to be incorporated into land use planning.
