HARWINTON SPRING COLLECTIONS 2013

FIRST SAT. EACH MONTH (Oct. is the 12th) :
Town Garage- 9-11 AM – oil, antifreeze, cfl’s, lead- acid and rechargeable batteries

APRIL 27 –MEDICATION TAKE BACK COLLECTION –Harwinton Town Hall Trooper Entrance (drive around back) 10 AM – 2 PM. All meds accepted. Exception: NO syringes/needles/liquids please. Call Tracy for instructions to dispose of these. (Second collection is September 28)

MAY 4 SCRAP METAL – Town Garage (Locust Rd.) 8-12 noon.
CLEAN METAL ONLY! (remove all non-metal parts from items)
Remove webbing from aluminum chairs
Remove plastic parts and bicycle tires
Drain fluids & fuels COMPLETELY from lawnmowers, etc.
Stoves & microwaves acceptable
APPLIANCES WITH FREON accepted. $10/appliance. payable at gate
(A second collection is Oct 12.)

MAY 4 BULKY WASTE- Town Garage 8-12 noon. (All fees collected at the gate)
1. INDIVIDUAL ITEMS ONLY. No loads of loose debris.
$15 each piece – mattress /box springs
$10 each – upholstered chair, sofa, large rug, tub, shower stall
$5 each – wooden chair, skid/pallet, rugs smaller than 9×12, toilet, sink,
bureau, desk, vacuum cleaner
2. TIRES – only the following sizes accepted:
$3 each – ( up to 18”) passenger, motorcycle, lawn & garden tractors
$5 each – ( 18.5” – 20”) small truck/SUV tires
(A second collection is Oct.12)

MAY 18- SHRED –IT EVENT – Town Hall Parking Lot 9-12 noon
Drop off your sensitive documents. Safely shredded on site. No limit. Households only please. (Other area shreds: log on to www.shreditct.com .click on “events”)

JUNE 22 – HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION 9am – 12 Noon at Falls Village DPW. Pre-registration required. Call 485-9647 to register and ask questions. (NO latex paints, waste oil, antifreeze, vehicle batteries, rechargeable batteries, medication. Call me for disposal information of these items). A second collection is Oct. 12 in Torrington.

MAY 4, AUGUST 3, OCT.12 – ELECTRONICS COLLECTIONS – Town Garage: (9 AM-12 Noon) . You may also drop electronics at CRRA sponsored collections. Log on to www.crra.org. Click on to “Electronics”. (We are a Mid-Conn Project town). No registration required, just proof of residency. All electronic “plug ins” are acceptable, such as computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, copiers, TV’s, VCR’s, radios, faxes, stereos, plug in phones. No small plug-in appliances (toasters, etc.)See www.metechrecycling.com (the town’s new vendor) for a complete list of acceptable items, or call me. PLEASE NOTE:DO NOT RECYCLE ELECTRONICS CURBSIDE! YOUR HAULER CANNOT ACCEPT THEM AND WILL BE FINED! BRING THEM, INSTEAD, TO AN ELECTRONICS COLLECTION.

Earth Day is April 22 – Good family project (year round): FOCUS on RE- USE. Keep as much as possible out of the landfill by buying carefully so there is minimum waste, use up what you have, share what you can, donate good items to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or drop (clothing and shoes only) into the Charities of Hope(www.charitiesofhope.org) bin located at the end of the library parking lot. Have a tag sale. Talk about what else your family can do to “Use it up, share it, recycle it…….for Earth’s Sake!”
